Rare Earth Metals – Separation and Purification of Lanthanides.

Años de ejecución:

2020 – 2023

Elementos de interés:

The main objective is the development of sustainable technologies for the recovery of rare earth elements through the separation and purification of lanthanides (Ce, Pr, Nd, La, etc.).

Descripción del proyecto:

Técnicas Reunidas will participate in the REMSELAN project with the aim of developing a lanthanide separation and purification process from rare earth concentrates obtained from hydrometallurgical processes.
To this end, the project is structured into two main phases:

  • Phase 1:
This phase will address the optimization of the leaching and precipitation stages, using as raw material a rare earth hydroxide generated during the continuous operation of the pilot plant of the Monazite Project (IDI20160402). The knowledge generated during this phase will, on the one hand, improve the overall rare earth recovery yields achieved in the Monazite Project, and on the other hand, allow for a more precise definition of the chemical composition of the complex rare earth mixture that will serve as the study feedstock for the next phase.
  • Phase 2:
In this phase, an indepth study will be carried out on the purification of rare earth elements from the solution generated in Phase 1, through a combination of separation techniques. These will include selective leaching and precipitation, dispersive solvent extraction, nondispersive solvent extraction (membranes, resins, and microcapsules), as well as other techniques such as magnetic separations.
