From Waste to Resource through Recycling.

Años de ejecución:

Development of technologies aimed at recycling, recovering, and transforming different highpotential waste streams, such as galvanic sludges, ashes, incineration slags, organic materials, and plastic waste, into economically viable resources. The project will generate strategic products and raw materials, including fertilizers, metals, chemical products, and highvalue liquid fuels, with applications across various industrial sectors.

Descripción del proyecto:

The project focuses on the development of new pretreatment and separation technologies aimed at obtaining a highvalue nonferrous metalrich fraction from the most complex types of waste, such as slags and ashes from municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration, as well as plasticmetal industrial waste.

It includes the development of cascade leaching processes capable of extracting virtually all valuable metals present in ashes, slags, sludges, spent liquors, and rejects from the initial concentrate.

In addition, the project involves the development and optimization of an innovative purification and concentration technology for base, precious, and critical metals, based on solid–liquid solvent extraction (SX SL) using:

  • Supported Liquid Membranes (SLM) with immobilized extractants, and
  • Microcapsules (MCs) consisting of extractant agents encapsulated in polymeric matrices.

A comparative study of purification technologies based on conventional liquid–liquid solvent extraction (SX LL) will also be carried out.

Finally, a technoeconomic evaluation of the optimal wastetometal process developed will be performed, using data obtained from the continuous operation of the full demonstration process.
