The depletion of easily exploitable resources together with the efforts made for the recovery of waste, has made the leaching in chloride medium acquire a renewed interest for the recovery of metals that must be recovered due to its economic interest or environmental restrictions associated with lead.
The HALOMETTM technology starts from a leaching in chloride medium and after a purification technology by solvent extraction, allows the selective recovery of metals present in industrial or urban waste.
The use of leaching in chloride medium allows the dissolution of metals that may be refractory to conventional leaching technologies such as the use of sulfuric acid or that in these conditions the production of waste makes the technology not environmentally viable.
The HALOMETTM technology consists of the following stages
LEACHING CIRCUIT IN CHLORIDE MEDIUM:
Leaching is carried out in chloride acid medium in those raw materials where the use of sulfuric acid is not effective.
the solvent extraction stage concentrates and purifies the electrolyte and the re-extraction stage is performed using sulphuric acid, producing a zinc electrolyte suitable for conventional electroplating technology
ELECTROLYSIS CIRCUIT IN SULPHATE MEDIUM
High-purity metallic zinc plates are produced by using an electric current. The exhausted electrolyte is used again in the stripping stage.
The technology allows in a single SX cycle the production of a zinc electrolyte in sulphate medium from a leaching liquid in chloride medium. At the same time it allows the recovery of other metals of interest such as lead in different stages of the technology.
