METAL RECOVERY TECHNOLOGIES

LIP4CAT TECHNOLOGY®

The obtaining of metallic zinc is based fundamentally on the leaching of zinc calcines that come from the roasting of high grade concentrates of this metal.

During the roasting process, zinc ferrite is produced by a reaction between the zinc and the iron present in the concentrate, the dissolution of which requires strongly acidic reaction conditions and high temperatures.

To optimize acid consumption and reduce zinc losses, this leaching is done in countercurrent using 2 to 3 reaction stages.
The LIP4CAT® technology consists of the following units:

SCL (soft calcine leaching)

Zinc oxide is dissolved in mild acidic conditions at low temperature using the acid solution produced in the SFL stage.

SFL (strong ferrite leaching)

The resulting solid from the previous stage is subjected to a strong acid treatment at high temperature to achieve the dissolution of the zinc ferrite.

The LIP4CAT® technology allows for the recovery of zinc from calcine in just two process stages because, when associated with ZINCEX® technology, it enables leaching reactions under more diluted conditions.

These leaching conditions, with low pulp densities, allow very high leaching efficiencies to be achieved using only two leaching stages and milder reaction conditions.
